You’d be for­given for think­ing Port Dou­glas has had an iden­tity prob­lem in the past. What started as a gold-rush town in the 1870s re­treated to a sleepy fish­ing vil­lage in the 1960s, be­fore ex­plod­ing as a glitzy play­ground for the rich in the late ’80s. Some 30 years later, it’s fi­nally come of age as a more so­phis­ti­cated re­sort des­ti­na­tion.
