There are certain things that make a person acutely aware of their advancing age. Like tuning in to commercial radio and realising you don’t recognise any of the songs. Or having to explain to your children what a VHS tape is. And here’s a fact bound to make anyone older than 35 suddenly feel like they are getting old: next month will mark 30 years since Kate Ritchie first appeared on Home And Away. Having experienced the unusual challenge of growing up in front of the nation, the now 39-year-old opens up to Stellar about how her life became intertwined with that of the character she played for two decades. “When you don’t remember your life without it and all of a sudden that doesn’t exist,” she says, “you wonder, what is it about me that is attractive?” The answer – as today’s cover confirms – is plenty.
