WALLIAMS’ NEW SKIT CRACKER
DAVID Walliams has some good news for Little Britain fans: the popular comedian won’t rule out reuniting with Matt Lucas.
It is more than a decade since Little Britain shot Walliams and Lucas to worldwide fame, and five years since the pair’s TV follow-up Come Fly with Me.
“Matt has gone off and done his own thing, but if he wants to do something again at some point that’s a conversation we’ll have,” Walliams says.
For the time being, though, Walliams is back doing sketch comedy with his new Walliams and Friend series. Each week he is partnered with a new performer, with guests to include Joanna Lumley (below with Walliams), Hugh Bonneville, Miranda Richardson and Sheridan Smith.
“I really wanted to go back to what I was doing in the first place [sketch comedy],” Walliams says.
“When you become successful for doing a sketch show, you get all these amazing other opportunities – and they’re all fantastic and enjoyable and test you in different ways. But I wanted to do something that was pure comedy and had no other aim than to make people laugh.”
Walliams knew his new sketch show would inevitably be compared to Little Britain so he set out to make it different.
“I think having the different stars each week makes it different,” he says. “It was finding people who would be fun and not too precious and not scared of failing. They’re all people I’m a fan of.”
