I, DANIEL BLAKE
Eighty-year-old British filmmaker Ken Loach is one of the last true believers in both the healing and hurting powers of cinema. This is a socially astute and incisive comedy-drama that can go from uplifting to gutwrenching in the blink of an eye. The title character, played by stand-up comic Dave Johns, is a 59-year-old carpenter recovering from a heart attack. A loophole in the British benefits system forces Daniel to spend his days hustling for jobs.
