JOEL Jackson refuses to be typecast.

The Aussie actor made such an impression in Peter Allen: Not the Boy Next Door that viewers were convinced he must be a song-and-dance man.

But Jackson has been busy proving he can do much more with roles in Nine thriller Hyde & Seek, asylum-seeker drama Safe Harbour and actionadventure movie Jungle alongside Daniel Radcliffe.

His latest role, as charming journalist Liam Johnson on The Wrong Girl, continues that push – this time into rom-com territory.

“As soon as Peter Allen became as popular as it did, it was a goal of mine to find work that is challenging and involves different styles,” he says.

“You keep sending that want into the universe and hope you’re lucky enough and working hard enough that people respect you as an actor and say, ‘ Yes, I’ll give you a shot’, and you don’t get stereotyped.

“I’ve been blessed to meet producers and casting directors that are open enough to throw these challenges at me and show me in a different light.”
