O’MEARA MARVELS AT MIXING UP MENU
HOW great would it be to have Maeve O’Meara as your mum?
For two decades, the Food Safari host has been travelling the world and bringing delicious dinner ideas home to try out on kids Conor, 22, Kitty, 20, and Carli, 18.
It looks like the family will be eating vegetarian for the next year, because O’Meara’s latest series, Food Safari Earth, explores how multicultural Australia cooks with vegetables, fruits, herbs, grains, pulses and flowers.
The 13-episode series features home cooks as well as hatted-restaurant head chefs. “For me, that [multicultural cooking] is a part of the way we live,” O’Meara says.
“I immerse myself in the cuisine I’m exploring and that’s what is in the pantry that week.”
Conor and Kitty have left home but family dinners remain a big part of their world.
“Conor’s partner is Ghanaian and Kitty’s is Jordanian so they’ve obviously got a really good sense of multicultural Australia,” O’Meara says.
“I just love getting everyone together, and more vegetarian dishes are appearing on the table.”
