BARING ALL FOR CHARITY
FOR most of the blokes baring all in Seven’s special event The Real Full Monty, getting nude for an audience greater than their wives and girlfriends is likely to be a one- off.
For the buff youngest son of Grant Kenny and Lisa Curry, it could prove a future career move.
As an ironman, Jett Kenny wasn’t too phased at the prospect of stripping down, and depending on how his performance goes down tonight, he tells TV Guide, it could have opened up new job opportunities.
“I’ll wait for the feedback and see if I’m any good first, but maybe that could be my next career path,” he jokes.
With mum Lisa and sister Jaimi sitting front row for his stripping debut, the 23-year- old admits the experiment had its awkward moments, but the normally Speedo- clad sportsman took it all in good stride, for a good cause.
“Around the time the show approached me, one of our surflifesaving friends had a scare … he had swollen testicles,” Kenny says.
“We sort of laughed about it, but thankfully when he went to the doctor, all was fine. He’s 24 and a similar age to me, but it was funny how, then going on the show, we learnt about the fact testicular cancer and prostate cancer are the most common cancers in men our age. It made me realise it could have been something much more serious and it’s great that it wasn’t for him.”
While his parents became household names for their sporting prowess [Kenny as an ironman champion and Curry as an Olympic and Commonwealth Games swim star], it was Kenny’s sister Morgan – who spent a few years as a dancer with the famed Moulin Rouge – who he turned to for advice on the dancing side to this challenge.
“She said to me, ‘ If you make a mistake, make it look like you meant it and roll with it. If you fall over, just do something on the f loor, play up to it and don’t fall in a heap over it’,” he says.
So, after six weeks of rehearsals, under the tutelage of stage veteran Todd McKenney, does Jett have it over his sibling now?
“I think I’d outdance Mum and Dad, but Morgan still holds the dance title in our family,” he confesses. “Jaimi, Mum and I will have to get by with what we’ve got.”
