CUMBERBATCH I N MELROSE’S PLACE
WHEN I was in London recently, covering royal wedding, besides Meghan and Harry, all anybody wanted to talk about was this literary drama, about English author Edward St Aubyn.
A five-part adaptation of his semi-autobiographical novels, it is a rollicking story about an eye-boggling life. Benedict Cumberbatch (pictured) plays Melrose, but is also a fan, telling
recently he considers the books “the most exquisite achievements in 21st century prose.” High praise indeed.
A darkly comic skewering of Britain’s upper classes, it also stars Jennifer Jason Leigh and Gwyneth Paltrow’s mum, Blythe Danner. Nominated for an Emmy for most outstanding drama, there is talk of a second season. Don’t say you haven’t been told.
