FUGITIVES STAY CLOSE

THE season three return of has been as solid as the obvious friendship between its lead actors Rebecca Gibney and Geraldine Hakewill as unlikely crims-on-the-run Lola and Chelsea.

While the credit for the success of this series falls largely at Gibney’s feet – and so it should, as creator, producer and star – Hakewill has been a revelation as her uptight offsider. Their sisterhood on and off the screen is so refreshing to watch; and the strength of that relationship clear in the chemistry they bring to their roles.

In tonight’s episode, Lola and Chelsea take refuge with eccentric loner Shirley (the always brilliant Ursula Yovich) but Chelsea in particular is struggling, finding it hard to hide the symptoms of her Huntington’s disease.

Meanwhile, as both women are distracted, the net closes in around them.
