HOMES UNDER THE HAMMER
ANOTHER season of has come and almost gone, with the results of yesterday’s top secret auction to go to air tonight in a 90-minute finale. The show has been a ratings bonanza for Nine and given new life to an old Melbourne landmark, the Gatwick Hotel. It’s hard to judge who will be the winner but the final challenge saw Courtney and Hans earn $40,000 off their reserve – an obvious advantage when these luxury apartments go under the hammer. But for mine, the real winners of this season have to be fan favourites, Jess and Norm (left), who transformed one of the building’s two penthouses. Not since Chrissie Swan on have I warmed to a reality contestant as much as I did Jess, who surely has a big future on radio or TV beyond this series. Meanwhile, Nine revealed it will return to St Kilda for next year’s series: transforming The Oslo Hotel, a backpacker hostel in a heritage building, which contains five 1850s terrace houses, hidden behind its more contemporary façade.
