WE forget the importance of film in this technological era. Today, anyone armed with a smartphone can be cameraman and distributor; but 100 years ago it was the first time people could see first-hand the reality of war – the fear in a soldier’s eye, the death and destruction. It left the public speechless. This was the power of film. Rare footage captures the people, events and ideas that shaped our world. From World War I to Nazi propaganda, to Vietnam anti-war protests, to the rise of global terror organisations, we witness a truly defining century in human history.
