Whether it was being plonked down in front of the telly as a preschooler or turning to it as a parenting refuge, it’s hard to imagine a time when Big Bird, Kermit, Grover and the gang weren’t part of our lives.
It still comes as a bit of a shock to see the program mark its 50th anniversary, inviting some special guests into the hood to celebrate. The new season begins, as it should, with a party with stars young and old adding their talents to the occasion.
Actor Joseph GordonLevitt (Inception) serves as the audience’s guide, breaking the fourth wall to talk to viewers about his favourite Sesame Street memories and introducing surprise acts including Norah Jones, Nile Rodgers, Dave Grohl, Meghan Trainor, Whoopi Goldberg, Chrissy Teigen and Elvis Costello.
The special culminates with the great Patti LaBelle bringing the street together for a stellar performance of
– surrounded by cast members, new and old.
