Howard wants Libs to say No
FORMER prime minister John Howard is calling senior conservative MPs and pushing them to come out against same-sex marriage.
The Sunday Telegraph can reveal Mr Howard has accused senior ministers such as Scott Morrison, Peter Dutton and Mathias Cormann of running dead on the issue.
Meanwhile, the No campaign is claiming support for same-sex marriage is plummeting after the High Court dismissed a challenge to the postal vote.
A poll of 4000 voters taken before the court ruling found 65 per cent in favour and 35 per cent against same-sex marriage. A second poll taken in the 10 days since recorded a 7 per cent swing away from the Yes vote.
Senior Liberal sources said Mr Howard is calling conservative members of the Turnbull government to lobby them to publicly defend traditional marriage.
John Howard has been vocal in the debate.
