1. CAMERON SMITH, Australia, Queensland, Melbourne Storm captain, RLPA general president
The most influential star in the game since the legendary Dally Messenger. No one has as much combined on or off-the-field impact as Smith. He continues to rewrite the history books and will only add to his growing legacy next year. Despite being 34, Smith produced arguably his best season to date, which has many suggesting he is bound for “Immortality”. Smith has positioned himself as the voice of the players by taking a role as general president of the players association. He has a direct line to NRL boss Todd Greenberg and demonstrated during this year’s pay dispute that he knows how to use his voice. He plays a key role in Maroons and Kangaroos team selections, and although next year could be his representative swan song, Smith has indicated he is keen to play on for the Storm.
