Smashing avo news

The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - - NEWS - VANESSA MARSH

SMASHED avo on toast will no longer be an excuse for not being able to afford a home, with prices to drop after a record harvest.

More than 75,000 tonnes of avocados are predicted to be produced in 2017/18, a significant jump from this year’s 66,000 tonne harvest.

Antony Allen, the CEO of Avocado marketing firm Avolution, said growers had been putting in more trees to keep up with demand.

Mr Allen said this meant prices would drop. “They got up to about $6 apiece,” he said. “They’ll come back down to more like what they were at the middle of last year when retail pricing was around $2.20 to $2.80, with those deals where it’s two for $4 or $5.”
