Gridlock for end of holidays
IT is going to be a slow crawl home for motorists returning from their holidays today.
Drivers are being urged to avoid travelling through the expected gridlock hot spots.
“In terms of traffic coming back towards Sydney, I would advise to allow plenty of time,” a Transport Management Centre spokesman said. “Particularly on the M1 through the Central Coast heading towards Sydney, and the Great Western Hwy from the Blue Mountains heading towards Sydney.”
At least 10 people have been killed on NSW roads since the school holidays began two weeks ago, with the majority of crashes on country roads.
“School holidays end in NSW this weekend and we are aware that some families will be heading home today,” Traffic and Highway Patrol Command’s Acting Assistant Commissioner Julie Middlemiss (pictured) said.
“Drivers should be patient and accept that there will be delays in and out of Sydney.”
