Growing demand for jobs

The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - - NEWS -

IT’S literally the perfect storm for Sydney backyards — just as the weather is getting warmer and we are emerging from indoor hibernation, the rain came down and turned our gardens into jungles.

But, instead of wrestling with the lawnmower and duelling with the hedge clippers, it seems we are turning more to experts to fix up the mess.

Australians are estimated to spend $7 billion a year on professional gardening and landscaping services.

October is the boom month for these jobs, as families get their gardens ready for the warmer months.

So it’s not surprising that tradie hiring platform hipages reported lawn mowing requests went up by 113 per cent last October, while garden maintenance jobs went up by 36 per cent.

“Each year, we experience a spike in requests for professional landscapers and gardeners at that time of the year, which can make it tricky for homeowners to find a professional available,” said Stuart Tucker, chief customer officer at hipages.

“This is when on-demand can help homeowners source and hire quality gardeners in their local area. By simply posting a job for gardening and landscaping on hipages, customers can get up to three quotes to compare offers and prices.

“Sending photos of their backyard through the app will ensure the available gardeners provide accurate quotes, while checking their online recommendations and photos of their work on their online profile will bring peace of mind.”
