Suspicious blaze destroys kitchen

The Sunday Telegraph (Sydney) - - MIRANDA DEVINE - BEN PIKE

A FIRE that gutted a Thai kitchen is being treated as suspicious.

Firefighters were called to Chat Thai, a prep kitchen for local restaurants, on Curry Lane at Artarmon, in Sydney’s north, at 10.30pm on Friday.

The operation was complicated by narrow alleyways making it difficult to manoeuvre fire trucks.

The Sugar Apple Studio, a popular photography studio next door, also sustained smoke and water damage.

Fire crews returned about 9am yesterday after the smouldering building reignited.

Nick Stevenson, who works nearby, said: “We thought it was New Year’s Eve because all we could hear was the sound of fireworks.”

No one was injured but a crime scene has since been established.
