Fare deal too smart

The Sunday Times - - YOUR SAY - COLIN COULTHARD Gooseberry Hill

I was concerned to read the State Government is to spend $34 million replacing the SmartRider public transport ticketing system with technology that allows passengers to “tap and go” using their bankcards and smartphones (TST, Sept 10).

Many seniors do not have (nor want) a smartphone and I cannot see the banks making the changes to their debit and credit cards that would be required to enable them to permit this and count the free use of the various transport systems by seniors as the current SmartRider/Seniors Card does.

Perhaps our Transport Minister, Rita Saffioti, would like to allay any such fears seniors may have regarding the proposed change.
