Yes to equality

The Sunday Times - - YOUR SAY - ANDREA SPENCER Rossmoyne

My Sunday morning of waking up exuberant from the Eagles win was quickly squashed after reading Andrew Hastie’s naive opinion on gay people and marriage.

As a registered marriage celebrant I know many couples who now include in their ceremony words to the effect that they believe marriage should be between any two loving people, regardless of their sex. Why should their love be judged, measured, scrutinised or dissected? Children who are raised by two loving parents, regardless of sex, are provided with an optimal setting. His comments that only biological parents can provide this are ludicrous.

Get with the times, Mr Hastie, and pull your head out of the sand. Australia needs to accept the fact that gay marriage will not stop the sun from rising and setting.

So it’s a YES vote from me.
