HOLIDAY LAYBY MAKES SENSE OF THE DOLLARS

The Sunday Times - - NEWS - TREVOR PADDENBURG

FORGET airfares and overseas travel — Denise and Nigel Twigger and their daughters Samantha, 17, and Cassie, 11, reckon there’s no place to holiday like WA.

The Lesmurdie family have circumnavigated the State more times than they can remember, staying at holiday parks and camping out in their four-wheel-drive and camper trailer.

But their holiday budget is being squeezed, and they’ve welcomed the RAC’s new holiday layby payment option.

“We’ve owned a camper trailer for about nine years and we do Perth to Darwin twice a year. We’ve gone up the west coast, through the inland road, via South Australia and up through the middle. We’ve explored one end of WA to the other and we just love it,” Mrs Twigger said.

“The Kimberley is one of our favourite areas and we love the fishing up the west coast. Seeing the changes of scenery from the south of WA all the way to the far north — you’ve got to see it to believe it. We stay at holiday parks and there are always amazing people to meet, which makes your travels so much richer.

“We’ll definitely pay ahead with layby. With the cost of living and the kids in school, I think it will make family holidays more affordable. You don’t miss $100 a week but you certainly miss thousands of dollars in one payment.”
