‘Miracle’ life cut short
A PERTH infant allegedly murdered by her own father was a “miracle baby” and the love of her mother’s life after it had taken her years to fall pregnant, according to a close friend.
Now the baby’s heartbroken mother, Nicole Gorman, is grappling with the unthinkable — her six-month-old’s life cut short and her daughter’s father behind bars charged with her murder.
Police allege Arron Colin Martin, 35, murdered his baby daughter, Isabella Sully Jean, at the family’s home in Brookdale on Thursday night. Mr Martin has been remanded in custody after a brief court appearance on Friday.
Nicole’s friend Rebecca Tushingham, who was her bridesmaid just three years ago, said baby Isabella was a longed for and much-wanted child, and her friend was “born to be a mother”.
“The look in her eyes — you could see that love for her mum. Nicole is a brilliant mum and I don’t want her to feel any guilt,” Ms Tushingham told Seven News last night.
“She’s had to have rounds of IVF, countless miscarriages and finally, after eight years, we’ve got this miracle baby.”
It is understood Nicole had suffered another miscarriage just two weeks ago.
“She’s strong, she’ll get through it and we’ll be there by her side,” Ms Tushingham said.
“Last week her life was perfect . . . it’s just crazy.”
A candlelight vigil was held out the front of the family’s Chiltern Avenue home on Friday night as people stood in silence to pay their respects to a child whose life had barely begun.
A simple message left on the front window of the home read: “Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers.”
The baby was found by police and paramedics at the family home with multiple injuries after her father went to a police station.
But the baby could not be saved and was pronounced dead at hospital. It’s believed Nicole was not at home at the time.
Ms Tushingham has set up a GoFundMe page to help with baby Isabella’s funeral costs and other expenses as Nicole has been forced to stop work, saying her friend “has just gone through what no mother should ever have to experience”.
More than $3000 has been raised so far.
