PARIS DRESS GOES NUTS IN FREO
THE Fremantle designer of a $600 dress worn by Paris Jackson at the Melbourne Cup says pre-orders have almost sold out before the outfit has even hit stores.
WA label Morrison has received a flurry of international interest after the 19-year-old daughter of pop icon Michael Jackson appeared at Flemington in the russet-hued Clementine dress.
After providing a selection of dresses for consideration, Morrison founder Kylie Radford was told Jackson loved the collection.
“Stylist Trevor Stones said she was a dream, with the fitting only taking a few minutes. But we really didn’t know until the day, things can change so quickly,” Ms Radford said.
Ms Radford said the response had been “insane” with international orders coming from the US, Spain, Dubai and Iceland.
“She looked incredible and the dress fit her like a glove,” Ms Radford said.
“I have received messages of congratulations from far and wide — some people I haven’t spoken to in over 15 years.
“Social media has gone crazy, the phones are nuts and we’ve had people going into our stores and Myer concessions to congratulate us.”
The WA-made dress retails for $599 and features 6.5m of soft, terracotta-coloured lace and imported velvet trims.
It’s yet to hit stores but pre-orders have almost sold out.
“We are running around like crazy at the moment trying to secure more velvet so that we can make more,” said Ms Radford.
Jackson described the dress as “the most like me out of the options I was given”.
“It’s one of my favourite colours. It’s comfortable, it’s soft and don’t feel like I want to die in it,” the teenage model told Elle magazine.
Morrison will debut a fresh summer collection at the Swim + Resort Show on November 26. For tickets, go to: ticketek.com.au/SRWA2017
