Town grieves for loved teen
Kaitlyn Scott we will love you and be proud of you forever baby girl. Forever sweet 16.
TRIBUTES have been paid to a 16-year-old girl who was struck by a car and killed as she walked from a house party early yesterday near Esperance.
Kaitlyn Scott, pictured, was walking along Davis Road, Monjingup, north of Esperance township, with her friends when a white Holden utility struck them at 1.30am.
She was critically injured after bearing the brunt of the impact and died in Esperance Hospital. A 19-year-old man is assisting police with their inquiries.
Major Crash officers are investigating if speed was a factor in the crash.
Kaitlyn’s mother Cassandra Eccles posted on Facebook: “To those who don’t know yet, we lost our beautiful girl early this morning. Kaitlyn Scott we will love you and be proud of you forever baby girl. Forever sweet 16.”
Family friend Yvonne Cooper has started a GoFundMe page to help pay for Kaitlyn’s funeral and support her parents, who also have a teenage son and pre-kindy daughter.
Miss Cooper said Kaitlyn was bubbly, vivacious and wise beyond her years.
She had moved out of home, had a full-time job in retail and was excited about her newfound independence.
“Finally she’s got that opportunity and it’s been taken away from her, it’s devastating, it shouldn’t have happened,” Miss Cooper said. “She was just starting a life of her own.”
Five years ago Mrs Eccles had organised a fundraiser for lifesaving medical treatment for Miss Cooper’s five-year-old daughter. Now Ms Cooper is rallying support for her.
“You will be sadly missed by so many people,” Miss Cooper posted on Kaitlyn’s fundraising page. “You were loved by many. Rest in Paradise beautiful girl.”
“No parent should ever have to worry about the cost of burying their child, so I am asking our community to come together to help as little or as much as you can to help ease some of this financial strain that the family will face.”
