Sleeping passenger killed
A MAN who was a sleeping back-seat passenger died after he was thrown from a car in a vehicle rollover in the Pilbara.
South Hedland and Major Crash officers are investigating the fatal crash on Marble Bar Road in Marble Bar on Friday about 9.25pm.
Police said a 40-year-old South Hedland woman was driving a white 2007 Toyota Prado towards Port Hedland when she lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll.
A 45-year-old South Hedland man, who was asleep in the rear passenger seat, was thrown from the vehicle and suffered critical injuries.
He was taken by ambulance to Hedland Health Campus, but died a short time later.
The driver sustained serious injuries and was also taken to Hedland Health Campus.
The fatality brings to 116 the number of lives lost on WA roads this year — 71 in regional WA and 45 in the metropolitan area.
This compares to 103 deaths at the same time last year.
Major Crash investigators want to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash or saw the Prado before the incident.
