Sleep­ing pas­sen­ger killed

A MAN who was a sleep­ing back-seat pas­sen­ger died af­ter he was thrown from a car in a ve­hi­cle rollover in the Pil­bara.

South Hed­land and Ma­jor Crash of­fi­cers are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the fa­tal crash on Mar­ble Bar Road in Mar­ble Bar on Fri­day about 9.25pm.

Po­lice said a 40-year-old South Hed­land woman was driv­ing a white 2007 Toy­ota Prado to­wards Port Hed­land when she lost con­trol of the ve­hi­cle, caus­ing it to roll.

A 45-year-old South Hed­land man, who was asleep in the rear pas­sen­ger seat, was thrown from the ve­hi­cle and suf­fered crit­i­cal in­juries.

He was taken by am­bu­lance to Hed­land Health Cam­pus, but died a short time later.

The driver sus­tained se­ri­ous in­juries and was also taken to Hed­land Health Cam­pus.

The fa­tal­ity brings to 116 the num­ber of lives lost on WA roads this year — 71 in re­gional WA and 45 in the metropoli­tan area.

This com­pares to 103 deaths at the same time last year.

Ma­jor Crash in­ves­ti­ga­tors want to speak to any­one who wit­nessed the crash or saw the Prado be­fore the in­ci­dent.
