STM fashion editor Claire Davies was front row a Telstra Perth Fashion Festival. Here, she picks the five top spring trends hot off the catwalk

The Sunday Times - - Telstra Perth Fashion Festival -

WE saw it all this week at the 20th Telstra Perth Fashion Festival. From scuba-inspired minis to oversized floral headpieces, this year there was no holding back.

From its humble beginnings in Forrest Place, the fashion festival this year took over Optus Stadium, lighting up the building and Matagarup Bridge in its signature vibrant pink.

The electric colour palette carried through to the runway inside – with hot pink, neon green and sunny yellow dominating collections.

It’s been years since Ae’lkemi designer Alvin Fernandez has played with menswear, but this year lucky TPFF guests watched an exciting selection of cropped jackets and shortie-shorts hit the catwalk. Empire Rose sent gents down the runway in leopard print shirts, custom T-shirts and luxe track pants — we’re hoping it’s a sign of what’s to come.

From canary yellow at Morrison to golden mustard at Aje, yellow is set to replace pink as 2018’s hottest hue.

There were sequins, glitter, and feathers galore sparkling down the runways at TPFF. The embellishment at Indonesia’s Malik Moestaram was marvellous, and who can resist a Studio-54 inspired glitter flare seen at Empire Rose.

Turn up the volume for next season, swapping out muted tones for sunglasses-required-neon, like those seen at Ae’lkemi.

For next season think voluminous sleeves, tiered skirts and ruffles galore, like those seen at fan favourite Romance Was Born and Aje.

No need to wait for casual Friday, experiment with a sequinned tie like those seen at Empire Rose. We loved seeing WA identities Nat Fyfe and Stormie Mills strutting their stuff on the TPFF catwalk.
