Rochester Flyer hon­oured

Veteran speed­way driver Ron Wil­liams, aka ‘The Rochester Flyer’ was hon­oured by Goul­burn Val­ley Auto Club in a spe­cial cer­e­mony at Rush­worth Speed­way on De­cem­ber 13.

GVAC pres­i­dent Phil Lamb pre­sented Mr Wil­liams with a large framed mem­o­ra­bilia col­lec­tion of his speed- way achieve­ments, in­clud­ing the orig­i­nal set of his old driv­ing gloves.

One of the most pro­lific race win­ners over more than 30 years, Mr Wil­liams took out the Aus­tralian A-grade Sedan Ti­tle in 1971. He was awarded a Life Mem­ber­ship, is a Hall of Fame mem­ber, and a Legend of Goul­burn Val­ley Auto Club.

‘‘Ron re­tired from rac­ing in 2004, aged 70,’’ Mr Lamb said.

At the same cer­e­mony, the club awarded a Life Mem­ber­ship to Gary Smith of Echuca, GVAC’s long­est serv­ing pres­i­dent, with a to­tal of 11 years in the lead po­si­tion.’’
