Rochester Flyer honoured
Veteran speedway driver Ron Williams, aka ‘The Rochester Flyer’ was honoured by Goulburn Valley Auto Club in a special ceremony at Rushworth Speedway on December 13.
GVAC president Phil Lamb presented Mr Williams with a large framed memorabilia collection of his speed- way achievements, including the original set of his old driving gloves.
One of the most prolific race winners over more than 30 years, Mr Williams took out the Australian A-grade Sedan Title in 1971. He was awarded a Life Membership, is a Hall of Fame member, and a Legend of Goulburn Valley Auto Club.
‘‘Ron retired from racing in 2004, aged 70,’’ Mr Lamb said.
At the same ceremony, the club awarded a Life Membership to Gary Smith of Echuca, GVAC’s longest serving president, with a total of 11 years in the lead position.’’
