Coun­cil grants are now avail­able

Com­mu­nity groups are en­cour­aged to ap­ply for a share of more than $100 000 in round two of Greater Shep­par­ton City Coun­cil’s 2014-15 grants pro­gram.

The Our Sport­ing Fu­ture, Com­mu­nity Arts Grants, Events Grants and Com­mu­nity Match­ing Grants pro­grams are all cur­rently open for ap­pli­ca­tion un­til Fe­bru­ary 6.

The Com­mu­nity Arts Grants of up to $2500 will support the de­vel­op­ment and im­ple­men­ta­tion of com­mu­nity arts ac­tiv­i­ties and projects as part of coun­cil’s com­mit­ment to par­tic­i­pa­tion in the arts.

The Com­mu­nity Match­ing Grants of­fers grants up to $2500 to support one-off projects which build or strengthen Greater Shep­par­ton com­mu­ni­ties and ben­e­fit the com­mu­nity.

Ap­pli­ca­tions for the events grants (small and ma­jor events) are also avail­able as of Jan­uary 2 for fund­ing for both small events ($500-$2000) and ma­jor events ($2000-$5000).

The Our Sport­ing Fu­ture pro­gram of­fers three com­po­nents: Mi­nor (up to $15 000 with a $1 to $1 con­tri­bu­tion); ma­jor ( up to $30 000 with a $1 to $1 con­tri­bu­tion); and sports aid (up to $5000).

The Our Sport­ing Fu­ture pro- gram as­sists com­mu­nity sport­ing or­gan­i­sa­tions with the im­ple­men­ta­tion of small to medium sized fa­cil­ity de­vel­op­ment projects and de­vel­op­ment pro­grams for new and emerg­ing sport­ing or­gan­i­sa­tions across the mu­nic­i­pal­ity.

Coun­cil’s sus­tain­able de­vel­op­ment act­ing di­rec­tor Colin Kalms en­cour­aged com­mu­nity groups to ap­ply for a rel­e­vant grant.

‘‘The pro­grams fund a range of projects and ac­tiv­i­ties. As an ex­am­ple, in the most re­cent round of the Com­mu­nity Match­ing Grants, funded projects in­cluded the We Shall Re­mem­ber Them project from the Un­dera Pri­mary School and a Gen­tle Ex­er­cise pro­gram for the Codgers Capers Men’s Group,’’ he said.

‘‘The Our Sport­ing Fu­ture pro­gram funded so­lar pan­els for the Shep­par­ton United Foot­ball Netball Club and a netball change area and cricket shel­ter for the Shep­par­ton Swans Foot­ball Netball Club.

‘‘There are so many projects which can be funded. If any­one is in­ter­ested, I en­cour­age you to get in touch with coun­cil and have a chat about your project.’’
