Watch for school speed zones

The Tatura Guardian - - News -

VicRoads regional director Bryan Sherritt is reminding motorists travelling around north-east Victoria, that schools go back this week after the Christmas holidays.

‘‘Major regional centres and towns will be busy with back-to-school traffic, including pedestrians and cyclists, travelling to and from schools,’’ he said.

‘‘This week students will be heading back to school, so please slow down and take extra care around school precincts.

‘‘Motorists should be aware that children are not always alert to the traffic.’’

Mr Sherritt said children can sometimes be unpredictable and at times ard to see.

‘‘So please observe school speed limits, I want our kids to get to and from school safely,’’ he said.

‘‘A small speed reduction can significantly increase the chance of a child surviving if hit by a car.’’

From tomorrow, January 28, school speed limits will be back in place and during specified times speed limits will mostly be reduced to 40 km/h.
