Bak­ery wins again

Tatura Hot Bread con­tin­ues to rack up awards, af­ter com­pet­ing in the Bak­ery As­so­ci­a­tion of Australia’s Best Pie/Pastie’ com­pe­ti­tion in Mel­bourne re­cently.

Owner Glenda Alexander said on Fri­day, the bak­ery had a suc­cess­ful com­pe­ti­tion, win­ning Best Gourmet Beef Pie with its chunky pep­per pie.

‘‘It was a big sur­prise, as we had never won a ma­jor prize with this pie be­fore, although it has al­ways been popular in the shop,’’ she said.

Mrs Alexander said ap­pren­tice Ben Werner en­tered the ap­pren­tice sec­tion and won a Sil­ver Award for his tra­di­tional pastie, and a sil­ver for his plain pie.

‘‘The bak­ery also won Sil­ver Awards for our chicken pie, plain meat pie and break­fast pie, along with Bronze Awards for our chunky beef pie, chicken pie, tra­di­tional pastie, veg­e­tar­ian pastie and gourmet pastie,’’ she said. ‘‘All of this capped off a suc­cess­ful com­pe­ti­tion. ‘‘Come in and try an award-win­ning pie to­day.’’
