The main event for Merrigum golfers on Saturday was the mixed Canadian club championship.
A great field last year was surpassed this year which was fantastic and there were a number of junior girls partaking which suggests the new life breathed into this event last year might continue into the future.
Jan Christou won the event last year with Craig Doherty but this year decided a change of partners was necessary.
This year she played with the wily Phil Savage and made it two in a row with a score of 89-24-65; a great round by the pair which gave them a fourshot win over their closest rivals.
It was the same winning score as last year but with a greater margin over the field this year.
Jan hasn’t played a lot of golf recently but clearly hasn’t lost her touch, and Phil would not have been short of advice either.
Phil has been in good form of late, so they were a good combination.
Both players have to be on their game to shoot a score like that.
