The Tatura Probus Club meeting, held on March 23, was the annual general meeting and the following members were elected to the executive committee:

President Bill Woods, vice-president Ev Leahy, secretary Wendy Wilson and treasurer Geoff McMullen.

The varied positions, such as trips organiser, will be decided at the first committee meeting.

It really was a vibrant meeting with Tony Mason from Rotary presiding over the election of office bearers, followed by a special morning tea.

The guest speaker was John Davidson, who was accompanied by his wife Maria from Kialla East.

John and Maria are enthusiastic apiarists and told us themethods they use to produce their honey.

John took up beekeeping in 1962 in Queensland where he learned the technique including the smoking, which calms the bees; however, John and Maria very rarely use smoke and have only been stung twice.

John explained the workings of the hive and the Queen Bee and her eggs.

It was an interesting talk and John was bombarded with questions from the members.

Wendy Wilson thanked John on behalf of the club and presented him with a Probus pen.

The annual games day was held on March 30 at Cussen Park.

After a picnic lunch the contestants played games, such as darts and hooky, but the highlight was the boot throw. Everyone agreed it was a marvellous afternoon.

Man in charge: Barb Halliwell with Probus president Bill Woods.

Guest speaker: Maria and John Davidson and Wendy Wilson.

Ready to play: The games day contestants.
