Tatura’s Tuhan family recently hosted American woman Jessica Crawley as part of the Illawarra Cattle Society of Australia and American Milking Shorthorn Society exchange program.

Michael Tuhan said the 20-year-old spent a couple of days at the family’s farm and also attended the Illawarra Cattle Society Victorian branch’s annual general meeting while in Tatura.

Mr Tuhan said the exchange program involved a person under 25 years spending time visiting farms and cattle shows to gain experience about the breed and farming practices.

‘‘This happens on an alternate basis with an Australian visiting the US one year and the next year we will host someone from the US,’’ Mr Tuhan said.

Mr Tuhan said Ms Crawley was from Arkansas where her family ran a 300-cow dairy operation.

‘‘She is currently in her second year studying Dairy Science at university,’’ he said.

‘‘Jessica started her trip in NSW where she and her family had a brief holiday together before she began her exchange in far North Queensland where her time included attending the Malanda show.

‘‘From there she headed to Murray Bridge in South Australia for some farm stays before making her way east, via stays in Mt Gambier and South West Vic- toria before heading into Northern Victoria.

‘‘From there she spent a couple of days at the Hayes family’s Llandovery Illawarra stud near Stanhope and then a couple of days at the Tuhan family’s Riversleigh Illawarra stud at Tatura East.’’

Mr Tuhan said they recently farewelled Ms Crawley after she moved on to stay at a farmnear Wangaratta before moving on to Bega.

‘‘Her trip will then finish back in Queensland where she will attend the Brisbane Royal Show,’’ he said.

‘‘All together she will have spent a whirlwind six weeks experiencing Australia.’’
