The world’s worst opera singer is coming to Mooroopna tomorrow.

Best known and mocked for her flamboyant performance costumes and notably poor singing ability, Glorious! will pay homage to opera singer Florence Foster Jenkins.

Florence’s story will be told on stage at WestSide Performing Arts Centre on Wednesday, August 9.

This deliciously happy and delusional woman performed in New York during the 1940s and was the singer that everyone wanted to see perform live.

She became known as the ‘‘the first lady of the sliding scale’’ and surrounded herself with devoted friends, almost as eccentric as she was.

Florence paid little attention to her critics and would screech and warble to her audiences, most falling about with laughter.

The heart-warming comedy moves from Florence’s charity recitals and lavish balls, through to her very odd recording sessions and her ultimate performance triumph at New York’s Carnegie Hall, incorporating her wonderfully colourful relationships along the way.

Glorious! is aWest End and worldwide hit, having been nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award— Best New Comedy (2005)— and has been seen bymore than two million people across six continents.

The movie adaptation, Florence Foster Jenkins (2016), starring Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant, was inspired by the stage show described as ‘‘a lunatically funny play’’.

The performance will take place tomorrow from 7.30 pm.
