Merrigum golf:

The Tatura Guardian - - Sport -

Merrigum golfers played a stroke round on Saturday, another day when they, for the most part, struggled to post good scores.

The recent rain has been great for the course but has made it play longer and Saturday’s cool breeze did not make the going any easier either.

Simon Doherty has been in consistent form and has been able to keep his handicap stable while many others’ handicaps head out during the winter months, and on Saturday he did enough to win the event, albeit on a count-back with a score of 84-13-71.

That was a pretty fair effort given the conditions but he didn’t have it all his own way.

Clint Prygoda had exactly the same score but unfortunately did not perform as well over the closing holes and thus lost out in the count-back.

The scribe is not sure if the two played in the same group, but if they did it would have been a competitive round of golf.

John Fuller was the next best with 73 nett.

Tony Borrelli continues to plunder the golf club’s cash reserves, taking the only nearest-the-pin to go off, the jackpot 12th. He has made a habit of taking the money in recent times.

Next Saturday’s event is stroke for the Privilege Cup, Kyabram Tyre Service and eclectic round six, Victoria Hotel of Tatura-sponsored nearest second shot on the 11th and least putts sponsored by Simon and Tash Doherty.

This is a direct swap with Saturday, September 2 which is now the Newton’s Parcel Service pairs ambrose.

Also, a reminder that the open 27-hole club championship is coming up on Sunday, August 27.
