Bulldogs held their own until final quarter

The Tatura Guardian - - Sport - By Tyler Maher

Tatura made Euroa work for every metre gained on Saturday, with the Magpies only powering away in the final term.

The Bulldogs led at quarter-time and half-time, but three goals to one in the penultimate stanza from the home side gave it the muchneeded ascendancy heading into the final term.

Fromthere JD Hayes’ side, as the team with more on the line, lifted to pile on another four goals to one in the low-scoring clash and secure victory.

Will McFarlane was monumental for the Magpies, kicking a goal and being named the best player on the field.

It continued a great month of football for the rising star, who has been named among his side’s most influential performers for the past five matches, booting 12 majors in that time.

Brad Cunningham also stood up to be counted when the chips were down, slotting three goals in attack to combine well with Jett Trotter (two goals) and Ryley Bjorksten (two).

The four premiership points keeps Euroa level with secondplaced Shepparton heading into the final round of the regular season, but a fixture against Seymour (fourth) means it must win another tough match to finish third.

Not only would it mean the Magpies avoid a rampant Rochester in the first week of finals, but it would also give Hayes and his charges the inside running for a double chance in the second week.

For Tatura, all that remains of a disappointing year is a clash against Benalla at Tatura Park.

After the performance Jamason Daniels’ men managed on Saturday, they will surely go into the game with plenty of confidence in their chances of upsetting the Saints.

Jamie Jones (three goals) and Matt Cornwall (two) found form in front of the big sticks against the Magpies. Final scores: Euroa: 2.2, 5.2, 8.4, 12.9 (81) Tatura: 3.0, 6.2, 7.5, 8.6 (54)
