Every Tuesday the Tatura Men’s Shed becomes a haven of activity and well-fed bellies while members enjoy their weekly lunch, cooked in its kitchen.

But after several years using the current facilities, the Men’s Shed has endeavoured to fundraise for a new stainless steel work bench with storage cupboards and new cooking appliances.

Tatura Men’s Shed member Gary Hopcraft said each week they enjoyed a variety of activities, but the highlight was the Tuesday luncheon.

‘‘On average, 30men enjoy the hearty meal prepared by members, in a relaxing atmosphere,’’ Mr Hopcraft said.

Founding member Tom Perry said he noticed the need for the Tuesday lunch after numbers dropped around noon each week when they went home for lunch.

‘‘Nowadays we sit down and chat over ameal,’’ Mr Perry said.

‘‘It’s good to hear from members about their health and their families and touch base.’’

Members are encouraging locals to book a table at the upcoming kitchen fundraiser dinner, to be held at the Tatura Italian Social Club.

‘‘Guests will have a choice of two soups, two pasta dishes and apple strudel with cream for dessert,’’ Mr Hopcraft said.

With brass and woodwind band The Splinters providing live entertainment the night will be full of fun and food.

‘‘A raffle will be conducted where hand-crafted items will be available for the winners to choose from as well as some other mystery prizes,’’ Mr Hopcraft said.

‘‘Each table will have handcrafted bread paddles, which can be bought by the highest bidder at that table.’’

Mr Hopcraft said the shed had also been invited to apply for Federal Grant funding to help to offset the kitchen upgrade costs.

‘‘Come along and show your support for our Men’s Shedders, who are badly in need of an energy-efficient, easy-to-use, practical kitchen that will replace the donated equipment.’’

Creative: Tony Boccabella designed the Tatura Men’s Shed brand’’ to use on the bread boards, which will be auctioned at each table.
