Bocce club dishes out its season awards
Kyabram Bocce Club hosted the 2017 Bocce Awards Day on Sunday.
A great day was had by all players who were eager to see the results.
Newly-elected Bocce Victoria president David Marks and Bocce Australia president Frank Funari took part in the day.
Mr Funari said Bocce Australia was introducing programs to encourage juniors to play bocce, a super league club competition and what was being done to have bocce introduced to the next Olympic Games.
Following a great meal prepared by volunteers, the awards were presented.
Shepparton’s Giuseppina Caruso was the women’s singles champion, while runner-up was Rosa Russo of Tatura.
Kyabram’s Pat D’Aulerio was themen’s singles champion. Runner-up was Shepparton’s Fred DeCicco.
The champion mixed doubles team award went to Tatura’s Mario Borrelli and Rosa Russo.
Runner-up was Shepparton husband-and-wife com- bination Fred and Molly DeCicco.
Russo was the overall women’s bocce champion for 2017, with Tatura’s Angiolina Borrelli runnerup.
The men’s section saw D’Aulerio receive the top bocce award for 2017, with Tatura’s Mario Borrelli runner-up.
NEBA president Giuseppe Greco thanked all the players for participating, the volunteers that helped out throughout the year with all the tasks that need to be performed, the sponsors and vice-president Mario Borrelli for taking the reins in his absence.
Congratulations to Russo and Angiolina Borrelli for taking out the Women’s National Doubles Championship again this year in Perth.
Next year the event will be held at the Redlands Club in Brisbane on the Queen’s Birthday weekend.
Mixed doubles winners: Mixed doubles champions Molly DeCicco, Fred DeCicco, Rosa Russo and Mario Borelli.
Singles winners: Bocce singles champions Rosa Russo, Pina Caruso, Pat D’Aulerio, and Fred DeCicco.
