Bocce club dishes out its sea­son awards

Kyabram Bocce Club hosted the 2017 Bocce Awards Day on Sun­day.

A great day was had by all play­ers who were ea­ger to see the re­sults.

Newly-elected Bocce Vic­to­ria pres­i­dent David Marks and Bocce Aus­tralia pres­i­dent Frank Fu­nari took part in the day.

Mr Fu­nari said Bocce Aus­tralia was in­tro­duc­ing pro­grams to en­cour­age ju­niors to play bocce, a su­per league club com­pe­ti­tion and what was be­ing done to have bocce in­tro­duced to the next Olympic Games.

Fol­low­ing a great meal pre­pared by vol­un­teers, the awards were pre­sented.

Shepparton’s Giusep­pina Caruso was the women’s sin­gles cham­pion, while run­ner-up was Rosa Russo of Tatura.

Kyabram’s Pat D’Au­le­rio was the­men’s sin­gles cham­pion. Run­ner-up was Shepparton’s Fred DeCicco.

The cham­pion mixed dou­bles team award went to Tatura’s Mario Bor­relli and Rosa Russo.

Run­ner-up was Shepparton hus­band-and-wife com- bi­na­tion Fred and Molly DeCicco.

Russo was the over­all women’s bocce cham­pion for 2017, with Tatura’s An­gi­olina Bor­relli run­nerup.

The men’s sec­tion saw D’Au­le­rio re­ceive the top bocce award for 2017, with Tatura’s Mario Bor­relli run­ner-up.

NEBA pres­i­dent Giuseppe Greco thanked all the play­ers for par­tic­i­pat­ing, the vol­un­teers that helped out through­out the year with all the tasks that need to be per­formed, the spon­sors and vice-pres­i­dent Mario Bor­relli for tak­ing the reins in his ab­sence.

Con­grat­u­la­tions to Russo and An­gi­olina Bor­relli for tak­ing out the Women’s Na­tional Dou­bles Cham­pi­onship again this year in Perth.

Next year the event will be held at the Red­lands Club in Bris­bane on the Queen’s Birth­day week­end.

Mixed dou­bles win­ners: Mixed dou­bles cham­pi­ons Molly DeCicco, Fred DeCicco, Rosa Russo and Mario Borelli.

Sin­gles win­ners: Bocce sin­gles cham­pi­ons Rosa Russo, Pina Caruso, Pat D’Au­le­rio, and Fred DeCicco.
