History of camps explored

The Tatura Guardian - - News -

The Tatura and District Historical Society was delighted to host Kazuyoshi Matsunaga, the Consul General of Japan, who was very interested in the history relating to Japanese POWs and civilian internees held in camps in the area during the war in November.

Japanese POWs were held in Camp 13, near Murchison, following the infamous break-out at Cowra, and Japanese families were held in Camp 4 near Rushworth.

Museum officials escorted Mr Matsunaga to the site of both camps, which was a productive and enjoyable experience for everyone.
