Merrigum bowls:

The Tatura Guardian - - Sport - — Young Joe

The annual general meeting was held last Thursday at the club rooms and the club has a new chairperson and two new directors.

We welcome Peter Hoare and Sally Horan to the board and hope they enjoy the journey.

Joe Chant was elected the new chairperson to replace John Firmer, who is having a break from bowls.

The new deputy chairperson is Rob Dennis, who also takes on the roles of green director and match committee chairperson.

Maureen Shepherd has agreed to another term as secretary and we are investigating the treasurer’s position, as Pat Hubble has moved to Shepparton. We hope to be able to make an announcement on her replacement in the next two weeks.

Joe Chant will also have the role as bar manager and publicity officer.

We have expanded and combined our selection committees into the one group. The selectors will be Wayne Shepherd, Lee Chant, David Pettifer, Barry McMeeken and Peter Hoare.

Lee Chant will also look after the Tuesday pennant.

John Bailey will deal with the 60 and overs and also lead the grounds staff.

A big thanks was extended to John Firmer, Pat Hubble and Alison Batt for the hard work and time given to the club.

Their efforts were greatly appreciated by all the club members.

Sally Horan will replace Alison Batt in charge of catering.

We are pleased with the response to the annual meeting and look forward to the new season.

The next pokie trip will be to the Mulwala Ski Club on Sunday, July 29. The bus leaves Kyabram at 9 am and Merrigum at 9.15 am.

The cost is still only $5 for the trip, morning tea and a two-course lunch. Betty and Meryl will have the information this week and we would love to see some new faces on the bus. Any queries to Joe Chant, phone 0428 552 466.
