The hunt is on for next year’s Australia Day citizens of the year and community event of the year with nominations now open to highlight Greater Shepparton’s hardworking community members.

Greater Shepparton City Council sustainable development director Geraldine Christou encouraged residents to nominate friends, neighbours or colleagues who had volunteered their time to make a difference to their community.

‘‘We all know people who just get out there and make things happen, lend a hand when the chips are down, or go above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to supporting other people, a cause or the community,’’ Ms Christou said.

The Tatura Australia Day committee has been working hard to make a brighter celebration for all Tatura residents to enjoy and be proud of the town they live in.

‘‘Council’s Australia Day Awards are a fitting tribute for these quiet achievers, and I urge anyone who has ever thought someone’s contribution deserves some recognition to nominate them for the 2019 awards,’’ Ms Christou said.

Nominations close on November 21 because of an external judging process.
