It was a game of two halves for the winner of Merrigum’s stableford event on Saturday.
It was another perfect day for golf and it looked like the winner Rod Newham was going to have the perfect round to match.
Starting on the front nine Rod went within a whisker of averaging three points a hole, reaching the half-way mark af- ter having compiled a massive 26 points.
A bit of a wobble was noticed in one rear wheel early on the 10th but he did manage to scramble a respectable two points.
However the axle shattered on the next hole and from there on it was a battle to just snatch a point here and there.
He did collect 14 points on the back nine for a total of 40.
In the wash-up Rod was three points ahead of runner-up Darryl Johnston with his only sacrifice being a shot from his handicap next time he hits the course at Merrigum.
Joining Darryl as ball competition winners were Russell Dunn and Roger Gillon who both finished with 35 points.
Nearest-the-pin winners were Roger Gillon on the ninth, Ash Sanders on the jackpot 12th and visitor Tony Marguccio on the 14th.
This Saturday’s event is stroke for the Privilege Cup sponsored by Bruce Brown and incorporates least putts sponsored by Simon and Tash Doherty.
This Friday night is Presentation Night so come along and celebrate the past year of golf with all the winners. Who knows, you may be one of them as there are still several trophies that will be announced on the night.
Saturday, October 27 is the Newton’s Parcel Service sponsored open two-person ambrose for which teams can be male, female or mixed.
It is always a fantastic and fun day with abundant excellent trophies so make sure you are a part of it.
