Merrigum golf:

The Tatura Guardian - - Sport -

The first round of the summer four-ball was played at Merrigum on Saturday.

The event was 4BBB stroke and it was keenly contested at the top of the leaderboard.

Jeff Parry and Roger Gillon had the round of the day, finishing with 61 nett, which was one shot ahead of their closest rivals.

The pair earned the maximum 10 points to set the pace early in the five-round event.

For his good form Jeff will have a shot less to play with on his handicap the next time he hits the Merrigum course.

Ash Sanders and Bruce Andrews were the runners-up with 62 and could prove to be a formidable combination in future rounds with both players having handicaps which are excessive when compared to ability.

Next best was the pair of Phil Savage and Jeff Newham with 63 on a count back from Simon and Craig Doherty.

Nearest-the-pins were won by Tash Doherty on the ninth, Phil Savage on the jackpot 12th and Tony Borrelli on the 14th.

Congratulations to Simon Doherty who got to play two of the country’s great courses in
