FROM THE EDITOR
KEVIN McCloud, who captivates many of you with his weekly dose of human ambition/folly that is ABC TV’s Grand Designs, is a frequent visitor to Australia.
As accomplished on the receiving end of questions as he is asking them, he features on our Style pages today. The interview is wide ranging, but I did find his ideas about furnishing small spaces particularly relevant to me.
If you think you are being charged through the nose by the restaurants you eat at, you are not alone. John (opposite) examines how even mid-range dining establishments can set you back upwards of $250 for a “normal” night out, a dubious value proposition according to John. Our cover, by esteemed cartoonist Peter Nicholson, sums it up perfectly.
Finally, here is the winning entry from our children’s birthday cake competition, made by Talia Boltin, of Caufield, Melbourne. I can’t vouch for what the kids thought of it, but the adults on the judging panel were mightily impressed. Talia wins a prize from Books For Cook, Melbourne.
