Phone a friend

Several weeks ago I was sitting on the park bench in Fitzroy Gardens at Sydney’s Kings Cross chatting to a friend, my trusty iPhone with all my worldly knowledge next to me.

While we were distracted by a woman on our left, her accomplice grabbed the phone and bolted.

It was at this point that a very sweet older lady in red cashmere and a walking frame alerted me to the theft. I managed to retrieve the phone from the culprit a few streets away but it was only yesterday that I finally spotted the good Samaritan who witnessed the incident. It was terrific to be able to thank her in person and hear how she attempted to steer her walker into the path of the thief.

I know this is meant to be a column about style, but what could be more stylish than a warm and wonderful neighbour with a civil heart watching out for those around her?

From a fashion aspect, it was also a terrific excuse to purchase the new Gucci iPhone cover as a celebration for getting my phone back.

Designer karma is very rewarding.
