What a remarkable person Tom Overstone was to sign up to become an organ donor aged 12 (“Life & Soul”, July 15-16). And what a tragedy to lose such a fine young man in a freak occurrence when he was only 17. Who would have thought that Tom’s selfless decision would save the life of Tatiana when she was at death’s door? And who would think she’d later meet Tom’s family and that they would form a close friendship? Tom set a fine example for all who haven’t yet signed up to become organ donors to do so. Peter Ralph Ashburton, Vic guest was insulted by the first half of her article is stunning. And by her own account, until she insulted him in writing he was the perfect guest. Paul Graziotti Dalkeith, WA Lynn Barber’s honesty demonstrated the common misalignment of charitable needs and deeds. No doubt she had honourable intentions, but what her story shows is the need for a better understanding of the symbiotic fulfilment between the casualty of circumstance and the charitable provider. Once this is realised, both parties can benefit. Real artists don’t feel the need to point to perceived vulnerability – it’s evident in the music. If anyone is taken by Perry’s new “style” they’ve simply swallowed a different marketing campaign. Helen Scheller Benalla, Vic
