Like Bernard Salt, I en­joy the use of words adopted from other lan­guages (“Talk­ing in tongues”, Aug 26-27). Here are some of my Ital­ian favourites:

pre-din­ner drink ac­com­pa­nied by free food;

mark left on a ta­ble by a cold glass;

fan­tas­tic and in­cred­i­ble.
