The Weekend Australian - Magazine - - INBOX -

I was appalled to read the name of Winston Churchill among “such 20th century horrors as Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini and Mao” (Phillip Adams, “Mad? We elect them”, Sep 16-17). All of this was in the context of many national leaders being mad. Churchill had his blemishes, but fortunately for us he did not suffer from “a lack of self-doubt” and saved Britain, its allies and the world from Nazi domination in 1940-45. By contrast, Stalin and Mao in particular murdered millions of their own people when their nations were not under external threat. The records of those leaders bear no comparison to Churchill’s. Michael Wills Armadale, Vic
