Lucy Gichuhi presents her­self as a role model for priv­i­leged mi­grants with her im­pres­sive aca­demic achieve­ments and sup­port­ive up­bring­ing. But I find her be­lief that “a job is the best form of wel­fare” some­what fright­en­ing; I pray that her po­si­tion of power doesn’t com­pro­mise her re­spon­si­bil­i­ties to those less priv­i­leged and for­tu­nate. The ar­ti­cle about the death of cruise ship singer Jackie Kas­trinelis (“Murky waters”, Oct 28-29) was so sad. It makes one think that not much has changed in the North­ern Ter­ri­tory since the Cham­ber­lain af­fair.
