All good fun
Your Heart of the Nation photo (May 19-20) brought back so many memories. I used to attend the Airlie Beach Hotel regularly and can remember those horrid yellow/mustard tiles in the main bar. I also recall, as the photo shows, that there was a fashion transition going on from “stubbies” to “scoops”. We had so much fun there – whilst everyone played up, there was a bit of decency I value a man who chops firewood, mows the lawn and ties down a trailer load without fear of chipping his nail polish. We need to appreciate our men, not confuse, critique and condemn them. Geraldine Burston Glengowrie, SA A pity ex-cub Phillip Adams couldn’t recall the Wolf Cub pack’s response to Akela’s dyb, dyb, dyb, dyb. Long-time ex-scout Dick Smith would have known the pledge of We’ll dob, dob, dob, dob (do our best), and observed its message to the letter since.
